Dear colleagues,

As you can see, we proceed with publishing of our Journal. This is the first out of four planned issues for this year. Given that the Journal itself is one of links connecting and mutually informing us, we expect far more active participation of SFS members and other interested parties in its creation. This refers to both, conception and content of the Journal and its plenitude. In regards of aforementioned, we expect your contributions, vocational and scientific papers, proposals, suggestions, propaganda and advertisements, remarks, news, etc. For the time being, the Journal is being distributed to about 110 addresses whereof 10 or so is abroad.

We use this opportunity to re-invite all interested companies and individuals to join us, if didn’t so far, due to our common goal (connecting, exchanging information and experiences, mutual cooperation in solving daily problems,... as well as common for survival of our profession).

We remind companies and member companies-founders to fulfill respective obligations in terms of membership fee payment at least, if didn’t so far, because neither the Society nor the Journal may achieve permanent existention on donations and external assistance. Aware of current financial crisis and the fact that people are connected by interest in the first place, let’s introspect this together and make the Society and the Journal this interest. The fact that numerous countries in the world as well as all surrounding countries have the societies of this type means that there is a reason for this. Let this be a suggestion for all of us to consider ahead of upcoming regular annual Assembly of the Society.

The release of SFS and published the second edition of "Art casting" by S. Markovic, V. Radovanovic, Z. Kamberović.

The book is done in B5 format, in hard cover and consists of 205 pages, 159 images of which the most in color, 11 tables and two attachments.

Upon foundation of the Serbian Foundrymen Society on March 7th this year, we are once again initiating publishing of our profession-oriented magazine under old name ’’Livarstvo’’. We think that continuity with the first issue in 1954 and the last publication in 1998 is not lost. Intention of editorial staff and editor is to make this magazine accessible for all professionals in any way involved or interested in the field of metal casting. This may be seen from the list of our members and sponsors given on the covers of this issue.

Given this is the first number, hence somewhat experimental in its nature we expect your feedback and active participation in work of this magazine. We will be grateful for all constructive critics, advices and suggestions. In this sense, we invite all colleague members and others who want to advertise in the magazine to do so in any form they like.

Due to the short term for issuance of the first number of the magazine, entire editorial content was approved solely by the decision passed down by the Executive Board and the Scientific Board of the Serbian Foundrymen Society (SFS). Final evaluation about all matters will be presented at the annual SFS Assembly.

Beside financial assistance for the membership in the World Foundrymen Organization (WFO) and supplying computer equipment, the Serbian Agency for the Development of Small and Mediumsized Enterprises and Entrepreneurship also assisted in issuance of this first number of our magazine. We use this opportunity to express our gratitude to this Agency, all our members and sponsors.

At the end, we invite all those who want but failed to join us, disregarding of fault part, to do so. We think that membership in the amount of 10,000 din (RSD) annually is not too expensive for companies. Opportunities and advantages arising from SFS membership may be seen in informationgiven in this issue.
